Develop Dynamic Web Sites in No Time!
CodeCharge - the Next Generation Web Development Tool

A new addition this month is a section on VBA in Powerpoint, due to a number of requests for information on this subject. I will start with a few introductory links/exercises over the next couple of months for an introduction. I hope you find it interesting as well as helpful.

VBA UPDATE & NEWS:

SITE #1: ~ http://businesssoft.about.com/compute/businesssoft/library/weekly/aa121400a.htm

Spreadsheet Vs Database: Which should you use? Use the checklist provided at this About.com Business Software site to work it out.

SITE #2: ~ http://www.microsoft.com/OfficeDev/Articles/OPG/

An old site, dated Feb 3rd, 1997, but Office 97/Visual Basic Programmers Guide, is a good introduction to using VBA, especially getting to grips with the concept of 'Objects', or to be more specific, the 'Object Model'. Handy for those that cannot afford to purchase the necessary books to learn about VBA.

SITE #3: ~ http://www.msofficepro.com/

This is, to my knowledge anyway, a fairly new site, where you can find resources for VBA.

WORD TIP:

When resizing cells in a WORD table, press both the right and left mouse buttons together to show the cell dimensions on the ruler. [ If you have rulers turned off, they are automatically turned on first. ] Remember, to make the columns in a table automatically fit the contents, click the table, point to AutoFit on the Table menu, and then click AutoFit to Contents.

EXCEL TIP:

With the new menu method of only showing recently accessed menu items in the drop down list, you might have missed a few changes in Excel 2000. One that is handy (Also available in WORD) is the 'Web page Preview' item on the File menu. Check out all of the menus to find menu items you might find handy, but not know about, such as the 'Custom Views' menu item on the View menu. Remember to double click on the main Menu Item, eg. File, to show ALL drop down menu items.

ACCESS TIP:

It has taken a long time, but finally there is an easy way to create web forms linked to your database. CODECHARGE @ www.codecharge.com allows your to create webforms in a variety of languages such as HTML, ASP, ColdFusion, JSP, PHP and Perl. The online help for the demo is a little brief, so I would strongly suggest downloading the PDF manual @ www.codecharge.com. I was up and away in three hours with a webform containing 45 fields for a call center quality control form, which was much easier that doing it by hand. From the main page you can also access an excellent review of CODECHARGE at the the WebTools web site.

POWERPOINT TIP:

The best place to start for beginners is with an example. This excellent one from the Microsoft support site, titled "PPT: Introduction to Macro Programming in PowerPoint 97 and 98", demonstrates how to create and run a macro that creates a new slide in a Powerpoint presentation. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q162/1/02.ASP
For more advanced uses, have a look at the Powerpoint 'Object Model Diagram' at http://www.microsoft.com/OfficeDev/Articles/OMG/naug07pp.htm
